You're not in Kansas now, Dorothy

I hate blow-you-away days and today has been straight out of The Wizard of Oz. Breeze, gust, zephyr… romanticise its name whatever way you will, but as far as I’m concerned, you can keep it.

I didn’t mind the fact it was blowing a gale quite so much yesterday as I was tired and the weekend was almost upon us. Today, however, it rankled. The grey mare feels even more strongly about the wind than I do. There are no flying monkeys or Munchkins for her; rather it turns blowing dock leaves into komodo dragons hiding on the verge and creates an array of other horse-eating monsters. I didn’t ride today; instead, she had carrots and cuddles.

Try as I might, I can only come up with two points in the wind’s defence: it dries things and powers turbines (which I have mixed feelings about at the best of times).

The prosecution, I think, has a much stronger case: it overturns boats, it destroys trees and houses, it can be dangerous to drive in, it fans flames, it steals clothes from the washing line and hats from heads, it messes up hairdos …
I wish I could click together the heels of my ruby slippers and make it go away.

I sometimes wonder if my hens will blow away one day, ruffled feathers flying all over the place as they desperately find somewhere to shelter. Even the quad bike seemed to struggle as she chugged her way up the hill.

It was sunny down here, with a few slight spits of half-hearted rain.
I sat with a glass of wine and watched the guinea pigs foraging free at dusk, chased away a hungry cat, then told Ben it was lights out time.
Wine now guzzled, nothing on the telly, Mike feeling grumpy in Lincoln where his team have lost the play-offs.
Again.
Oh dear.

....and it blows over my carefully erected marquee for an after sale supper tonight. Had to relocate to the kitchen and tent still upside down in the garden.
Not stewarding at Glendale ..tut tut.. I think you'd better have one of those stiff gins you so eloquently wrote about, before you break the news.

You can borrow mine! I actually have a pair of red , ok perhaps not rubies, but spangles shoes! They are so totally fun. My friend Sally the Aussie and I found them in the Fez Medina and dazzled everyone back at the Villa with our dancing. Was that my daughter in the corner with her hands over her face?

It must be global. We had a blowdown last night and this night as well. I went up to the roof/terrace to close up the patio umbrella and secure plants and tables - cause that would be bad!

And windy here too - sand and dust everywhere...on such days I think of adopting the abaya

zephyr

It isn't used enough.

Nothing worse than a bit too much wind.

The gift shop at Kansas airport is noticably devoid of anything unique that you would want to take home and show off. It's full of Oz stuff though.

There was no wind in Bexley while I was horse riding! Sorry, can't help but keep mentioning it!

Carrots and cuddles - sounds lovely, although I prefer chocolate and cuddles myself.

Did you ever read 'Chocolat'? The wind always blows when change is coming for Vianne. Very evocative. Hugs x

My biggest problem with wind turbines is that they can act as big bird traps because the best winds tend to be on their migration routes. I love your 'hug a horse' thing. It beats hug a hoodie, anytime.

the wind has dropped now, but it blew for 2 days drying out the muddy puddles & ripping the new leaves off the trees. horse & wind just don't go do they?

It was indeed a bad un, northerners, Dubai and Morocco folks.

Am awfully jealous of those that escaped it.

However much better today.

If more people hugged horses, the world would be a happier place - espeically if they hugged horses like my grey mare who reciprocates by resting her head on your shoulder and blowing in your ear. She really is a babe ...

M&M - really, a post about your wind problems are just taking things a step too far my lovely. Bisodol works wonders, you should try it!

Ah, Rilly and The Secretary, bringing down the tone again...

One can also sail a yacht in it.
